ABOUT US

OUR STORY

Locating a therapist can be hard – but it doesn’t have to be. This difficulty is compounded when looking for a clinician of color, and was deeply felt within the BIack, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) communities in Grand Rapids, Michigan.

Rebecca Spann and Janee’ Beville were ignited to bridge this gap and spearheaded the initiative to reduce stigma, increase accessibility, and promote mental wellness in the BIPOC populace of West Michigan.

As veteran clinicians themselves, Spann and Beville started by creating a private Facebook group in 2019. This group created a powerful collective and helped identify, strengthen, and support fellow clinicians of color.

The success of the group spurred the realization that Grand Rapids, at large, would also benefit from the accessibility of having a wealth of information and a directory of clinicians of color just click away.

In February 2021, the Mental Health Clinicians of Color directory was launched. MHCOCGR is now a 501(c)(3), non-profit organization.

Other amazing contributors that have helped to make MHCOCGR a success include the following:

Tashuna Hunt, LMSW and Wesley Morgan, MA, LPC

Alex Brito, Chinyere Aririguzo, and Veronica Quintino-Aranda (Public Page Contributors)

We are committed to helping connect BIPOC communities

to BIPOC mental health and wellness professionals.
